Brüel & Kjær conducts digital transformation by moving to the Microsoft Azure cloud
By moving the entire organization's IT infrastructure in the Azure cloud, Brüel & Kjær Sound has laid the foundation for transforming their business.
Many companies are busy converting their business to the new digital reality, where commerce, communication and collaboration take place globally via the Internet. It requires a much more flexible and cost-effective way to run your business data center and business applications. Therefore, many companies have started moving their IT infrastructure in the cloud to take advantage of the huge competitive advantages it brings.
This also applies to the old Danish multinational engineering and electronics company Brüel & Kjær. Brüel & Kjær is a good example of a company that is in the process of transforming their entire business into the modern digital reality.
From Beyond Tomorrow to Beyond Measure
Brüel & Kjær has been manufacturing and perfecting measuring equipment for measuring sound and vibration for 75 years. But Brüel & Kjær has been following the development and continuously renewing their products to exploit new technological opportunities and meet new needs. Also, the company is now where we are at the threshold of a new digital age, where the collection and utilization of data plays a crucial role, in full renewal of products and organization.
In recent years, Brüel & Kjær has added a number of digital services and solutions to their product portfolio. This was based on an analysis that Brüel & Kjær prepared in collaboration with the Institute for Futures Studies under the title Beyond Tomorrow, which analyzes megatrends in product development from now until 2030.
With the slogan Beyond Measure, Brüel and Kjær are looking at how they can add value to their products by utilizing all the measurement data their instruments collect.
"We have defined our next journey under the word Beyond Measure, which means that we will not only measure but we will have value from the measurements that are made", says Jonas Toft Olesen, Head of IT at Brüel & Kjær.
Taking advantage of Microsoft's global footprint
As part of Brüel & Kjær's cloud strategy of getting their IT platforms and applications delivered and run as a cloud service, Brüel & Kjær has chosen to move their Microsoft Dynamics CRM platform from a local hosting center onto a Microsoft Azure platform.
"The idea and strategy of moving our services in Azure is that we want to make use of the global footprint that Microsoft has. This means that we can provide services to our customers where they are and services to our users in the regions where we operate,” says Jonas Toft Olesen.
Successful Cloud Transition
The CRM platform is used daily by 720 people in the sales, service and marketing staff. Thus, it is a very business-critical application platform that should only work from day one, so that the employees were not prevented from carrying out their work. Therefore, it was extremely important for Brüel and Kjær that the transition was made in collaboration with a supplier with extensive experience in the field.
“We have moved our Dynamics CRM solution to Azure. We have done this because we wanted to pack our on-premise solution as a Software-as-a-Service application, which is delivered over the internet and is available to all inclusive partners,” says Jonas Toft Olesen.
“The collaboration with ProActive has been good. We have the same culture, share the same values, we have high professional pride and stand by our words. ProActive has taken a great deal of ownership in this transformation and has had good cooperation with our internal team,” concludes Jonas Toft Olesen.
